SWMHP Racial Equity Statement

As a proud Charter Member of NeighborWorks America, we affirm their statement: “It has been made shockingly clear that we still have a long way to go when it comes to respect, equality and justice…We remain steadfast in our mission to invest in communities and work to ensure all resident voices are heard.” Since 2020, events have continued to illuminate the costs of racial inequities in our region, state, and country. According to the Minnesota Housing Partnership, 23 percent of white households pay more than they can afford for housing while 40 percent of households of color experience that burden. Minnesota also has one of our nation’s highest homeownership gaps with 77 percent of white households owning a home, compared to 41 percent for households of color, and just 24 percent for black households.

SWMHP will continue our work to eradicate discrimination and racism and achieve real justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion within our organization and the communities we serve throughout Minnesota. Continuing this work is imperative to meeting our mission: “We partner with communities to develop places for people to call home.”
