The Minnesota State University Mankato Forensics Team is proud to announce the annual collegiate speech and debate tournament, taking place from October 18 to 20, 2024. This year, the event will be held in memory of Larry Schnoor, a beloved figure in the forensics community who passed away this year. The tournament, known as the Super Schnoor Memorial Tournament, will feature a superhero theme, celebrating the legacy of a mentor who inspired many.
For decades, this tournament has served as a platform for collegiate speech and debate teams from across Minnesota and beyond, including participants from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, South Dakota State University, and the University of Northern Iowa. This year is its third year as a charity event, with proceeds benefiting the Southwest Minnesota Housing Partnership (SWMHP), an organization dedicated to creating equitable housing solutions across Southern Minnesota.
Lillian Lamoreux, Continuum of Care Coordinator at SWMHP, expressed her enthusiasm for this partnership: “As an alum of the MSU Mankato Speech Team and an employee at the Southwest Minnesota Housing Partnership, I am thrilled to be a part of this collaboration. Forensics students are passionate about injustices and equity and are some of our future leaders. This partnership honors Larry Schnoor’s legacy of caring for people and their stories.”
Katie Brunner, Director of Forensics at MSU Mankato, voiced her agreement: “Maverick Forensics has been so excited to partner with SWMHP to support housing equity in our local community. Larry’s memory lives on in the passion and dedication these students put into this activity and their community every day.”
