Stop foreclosure prevention scams

If going through foreclosure was not hard enough, add in the possibility of being scammed by someone you thought was working for you. As foreclosures for the state of Minnesota have been on the rise, so have been the amounts of foreclosure scams. These foreclosure scam companies not only offer services that are otherwise free, they are known to ask for outrageous up front charges and additional fees while suggesting you stop paying your mortgage. These scam companies are advocating for only themselves in the end and can easily leave you in a worse situation.

In partnership with NeighborWorks America Loan Modification Alert (see YouTube Video below) campaign, the Minnesota Homeownership Center has created a state-wide campaign called “Look Before You Leap”. This is an initiative to educate homeowners on how to recognize and avoid scams. The State of Minnesota has trained and professional nonprofit foreclosure counselors. These individuals can assist with foreclosure and even credit counseling. At the SWMHP, we are proud to offer foreclosure counseling services. If you have any questions regarding foreclosure counseling, scams, or any other services, do not hesitate to give us a call or visit the Look Before You Leap website.
